How To Teach Your Dog To Swim

Before you teach a non-swimmer to swim, keep in mind that some dogs may be ill-suitedfor this activity. These include young puppies; elderly or overweight dogs; short-nosed,short-legged, or toy breeds; and dogs with medical conditions. Other dogssimply don’t like the water, and that’s okay— never force a fearful dog to swim. Dogswithout tails may have trouble when learning to swim, since the tail is used as a rudder—but they’ll soon find their own technique to make it work if they like the water.
