🏖️ Pet-friendly Beaches Near Your Local Spot

Jul 01, 2023Amy Burns Barr
The dog days of Summer are back! With the temperature rising in California this July, finding a place to keep your pet entertained and cool at the same time can be a challenge. While they may enjoy the comfort of an air-conditioned environment like our Small Dog Daycare, here at Healthy Spot, we know that our furry friends are always looking for their next great adventure. Take a trip to pet-friendly beaches near your local Spot and turn your shopping day into your pet's next big adventure!
Unfortunately, many cities in the Los Angeles area do not have beaches that allow dogs, including Santa Monica, Marina Del Rey, Manhattan Beach and Venice Beach. However, everyone in LA knows when it comes to our pups, if there is a will, there will always be a way! City folks can take a beautiful drive down Pacific Coast Highway and cruise over to Malibu, the country's most popular beach city!
35000 E Pacific Coast Hwy., Malibu, CA 90265

Give your city pup an unforgettable outing at the fabulous Leo Carrillo State Park beach in Malibu! As long as you stay north of Lifeguard Tower 3, your pup will have the most pawtastic day at one of the only dog-friendly beaches in the area.
5000 E Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90803

Rosie’s Dog Beach has daily ‘Dog Zone’ hours from 6AM - 8PM and can be found just 2 miles from our Long Beach Spot. This area is not fenced in, and dogs must be on a leash while heading to the beach, but they’re free to roam and play off-leash once you’re inside the Dog Zone space!
100 Goldenwest St., Huntington Beach, CA 92648
Swing by Orange County's most popular dog-friendly beach only 8 miles away from our Costa Mesa Spot! Huntington Dog Beach sits along the Pacific Coast Highway and gives pups and parents a great opportunity to catch some sun and play with other friendly pets.
Ocean Ave & Scenic Rd., Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA 93923
While you’re visiting one of our newest Spot locations, a short 2.2-mile drive will lead you to Carmel Beach. This pristine and safe beach is home to some of the happiest pups in Carmel! Let your pup play off-leash in the soft sand or take a splash in the calm waters. Either way, your pup will be howling for more beach days!
206 Fort Funston Rd., San Francisco, CA 94118
If you're looking for stunning views as your pup frolics in clean sand, then Fort Funston Beach is for you. Plus, it's only 15 minutes away from our Mission Bay Spot! This beach for dog parents (and dog lovers) is a popular San Francisco site that typically stays cool year-round, so you won't have to worry about them overheating!
12 25th Ave., San Francisco, CA 94121
Whether you're a San Francisco native or just visiting this beautiful Northern California town, you can't resist the spectacular view of the famous Golden Gate Bridge Baker Beach offers! Take an 8 mile drive throughthe city to give your pup off-leash for playtime, chat with friendly pet parents and enjoy lunch in their picnic area.
24 Buchanan St., Albany, CA 94710
If you're looking for an intimate setting, head on over to Albany Beach! Only 6 miles away from our Rockridge location, this small, sandy beach offers a great getaway from the city where your pup can run free! Plus, this shoreline tends to be less crowded and can be a great way to relax with your dog.

Cleaning Necessities

Don’t be a pawty pooper- make sure to do your part in keeping our beaches clean and pick up after your pet!
Make your pup the most stylish star on the shoreline while optimizing comfort and functionality with our BarbieTM x Canada Pooch collection!
Be sure to pack snacks that are quick, easy and healthy to keep your pup energized and satisfied throughout the day.
Cooling Toys
Cooling toys can be one of the best ways to cool a dog down in the summertime heat. Remember to keep them packed in your cooler to prevent them from melting!
Before you let your pet off-leash to play, make sure to keep them strapped into a sturdy leash and harness on your walk over to the beach.
(Don't furget- many beaches require that your pup be kept on a leash before reaching the designated off-leash area!)
Make your dog's day trip easier by packing a meal in a portable stainless steel bowl to keep them satisfied. Plus, these bowls can be utilized as water bowls to keep them quenched under the summer sun!
Snout Soother
Moisturize your sensitive-nosed pup from dryness and irritation by applying a natural SPF snout smoother to protect them from the sun!
Make sure to grab these essentials before you head out on your adventure.
