March 11, 2021 - On March 2, 2021, USA Today released an investigative article signaling the flea and tick prevention collar Seresto, may be responsible for the harm and death of a large number of pets and humans.
The article references a report from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that documents all of the incidents related to Seresto over the past 8 years. While some argue there is no definitive link, others say the volume of incidents should’ve been enough for the EPA to inform the public of its potential risks.
According to the EPA, “No pesticide is completely without harm, but EPA ensures that there are measures on the product label that reduce risk...the product label is the law, and applicators must follow label directions. Some pets, however, like some humans, are more sensitive than others and may experience adverse symptoms after treatment.”
Elanco, the company that sells these collars, provided a statement that claims, “There is no established link between death and exposure to the active ingredients contained in Seresto.”
Out of an abundance of caution, these pet flea and tick collars were immediately removed from all Healthy Spot locations.
The array of flea and tick prevention products available is vast and numerous and often overwhelming to the average consumer. While most are formulated to include synthetic ingredients and pesticides, some remain pesticide-free opting for more natural ingredients like almond and peppermint oil. At Healthy Spot, we carry both to ensure we have the perfect solution for you.
If you have purchased a Seresto collar from one of our locations and would like to return it, please visit your closest Healthy Spot for a full refund.
