Lawsuit Filed Against Champion Pet Food

Mar 20, 2018Andrew Kim

On March 19, 2018, Healthy Spot was informed of a lawsuit filed against Champion Pet Food for “false advertising,” violations for “feed law”, and other charges.  This Class Action lawsuit claims that Champion Pet Foods (Acana and Orijen) have levels of arsenic, mercury, lead, cadmium, and Bisphenol A (BPA) that were undisclosed to consumers. While the lawsuit did provide support for their claim, the conclusion of these results may not reflect the true long-term effects. To learn more about the lawsuit, click here.

We carry this brand in our stores and at this time, Healthy Spot remains supportive of Champion Pet Food. After reviewing the information shared with us by Champion, we believe that their products are safe for pet consumption. As a long-time partner of Champion, we are aware that they have always prioritized safety and the use of quality ingredients above all else. At this time, we believe these claims are inaccurate because small amounts of these substances are safe and common in human and animal diets. To read Champion’s statement, please click here. Healthy Spot will continue to monitor the situation and react quickly if anything changes. As further information becomes available, we will update this article.
