Pathogenic Bacteria Found in JustFoodForDogs Turducken Recipe

Jan 16, 2018Andrew Kim

On January 15, 2018, JustFoodForDogs voluntarily recalled specific recipes of its cooked frozen dog food due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. This occurred after a customer reported that JustFoodForDog’s Turducken special made her dog sick with vomiting and diarrhea. Fortunately, her pet recovered after a day, but still returned the food for testing. Laboratory testing confirmed positive contamination with the company’s human-grade green bean supply with Listeria monocytogenes.

For safety measures, the company recalled their Turducken recipe, as well as other recipes that contain green beans: Beef & Russet Potato, and Fish & Sweet Potato. If you’re currently feeding any of these recipes to your pet and purchased the product between November 1, 2017 and January 14, 2018, JustFoodForDogs advises to dispose of it and not feed it to your dog.

While it is rare for Listeria to severely affect dogs, possible side effects include vomiting and/or diarrhea. Elderly and sick dogs are at the highest risk of these side effects due to lower immunity.
