Elevated Levels of Beef Thyroid Hormone Found in Dave’s Pet Food

Jun 13, 2018Andrew Kim

On June 13, 2018, Dave’s Pet Food recalled a batch of their 95% Premium Beef cans for dogs due to high levels of beef thyroid hormone.

This recall occurred after the FDA received a complaint that four dogs consuming this product had a low Free T4 and Thyroid stimulating hormone. After analyzing the product and finding elevated levels of thyroid hormone, Dave’s Pet Food was notified and decided to do a voluntarily recall. The recalled product was distributed along the east coast of the US, sold both in stores and online.

Dogs that consume high levels of beef thyroid hormone may experience symptoms such as increased thirst and urination, weight loss, restlessness, and an increased heart rate. Prolonged consumption may increase these symptoms, and also include vomiting, diarrhea, and rapid breathing.

If you recently bought Dave’s Pet Food 95% Premium Beef cans for your dog, we recommend to immediately stop feeding it to your pet. If you would like to receive a refund or have any additional questions, please call Dave’s Pet Food at 888-763-2738 Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM ET.
