Who Is Tully’s Training?

Tully’s is a family-owned business dedicated to helping pet behavior using positive reinforcements and science-based techniques. It all started ten years ago with Mary Tully who at the time was training animals across the nation. From chickens to dolphins, she learned and applied the same general behavioral principles to the dog training world.

Fast forward to today, and Tully’s Training has worked with over 500 satisfied families in Southern California!

Their Philosophy & Mission

Tully’s Training uses a unique approach to behavior modification. It’s based on the science of learning using positive-reinforcement techniques, the same techniques that are used to train animals in the most respectable zoos, aquariums, and marine mammal facilities across the country. Their philosophy includes the four pillars mentioned below:

Work with your dog, not against them. Tully’s Training teaches you how to use what your dog likes to get your dog to do what you want. It really is that simple! Positive reinforcement is the safest and most effective way to train a dog. Our methods have been scientifically studied and proven time and time again. Learn to work with your dog like a professional trainer!

Relationship is everything. Using simple techniques, Tully’s Training teaches you how to build a stronger relationship with your dog based on trust and understanding while learning to work together as a team. Your dog wants to be good - it just doesn't know how! Help your dog be better by gaining his or her confidence and trust.

Tully’s Training look at yours and your dog’s daily routine and lifestyle to find the root of whatever problem you might be having. Before they take on any new clients we complete a thorough in-home consultation and behavioral evaluation on your dog. Their trainers then customize a training program around your dog's needs, giving us the best possible results in the shortest amount of time.

By using “problem” behaviors as examples, you’ll get a complete dog training education that is focused on the big picture rather than a few isolated problems. Learn how to read your animal, how behavior works, and how to modify it. You will not only learn how to fix current problem behaviors, but keep future problem behaviors from occurring. Your dog isn't the only one getting an education!

Their Values

Tully’s Training shares very similar values to Healthy Spot. From providing pets mental and physical exercise to giving back to the community, we highly respect and admire their practices and what they offer. Their three important values to Tully’s are mentioned below.

You can train your dog till the cows come home, but if they aren’t getting enough exercise and enrichment, or if they don’t feel well because their diet is poor, they still won’t be able to give you their best. Tully’s Training takes everything about your dog’s well-being into consideration to ensure you are setting your dog up to successfully give you the best behavior they possibly can!

Even despite over 30+ years combined experience in animal behavior modification, Tully’s Training team is passionately dedicated to keeping informed of new ideas and research in the training field to ensure their clients are getting the best possible tools they can get to see results.

Giving back to the community is something that is very important to Tully’s Training. Currently, they work with two different rescue organizations where they donate a free training session to any dog who is adopted from their care. A recent study conducted by the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy found that only 4% of the dogs who were surrendered into shelters had received formal obedience training. Tully’s Training has become part of the solution to the shelter overpopulation problem by training adoptable pets so they have a better chance at finding their forever home.

Duration: 5 weeks

Description: Tully’s Training has structured this class with a holistic approach with the mindset that this may be the only dog focused class most of their students will ever take. “Positive Dogs Secondary” teaches dog owners how to apply training techniques in real world scenarios using a holistic approach. This class touches upon everything every dog and parent needs to be successful. Tully’s Training covers sit, stay, focus, down, on-leash manners, come when called, leave-it, and more but it’s not just behaviors that they teach. Each class starts with a discussion focused on making sure your pup is getting exactly what he or she needs in order the be a balanced, well-adjusted member of your family. They work and teach socialization and guide you on how to read and translate your dog’s body language/signals to better understand what they mean and how to apply them to social situations. They also incorporate interactive elements into these discussions whenever possible, for example: during the “Nutrition” discussion, treats and food samples are supplied, while puzzle toys are made available and used during the brief discussion about “Enrichment”. Their final class concludes with a graduation ceremony and party.
