NEW YEAR, NEW DIET: THE TRANSITION TO RAW PET FOOD
With the New Year comes resolutions, where we embrace clean diets and embark on a health journey we hope lasts throughout the year. As you cut out junk and processed foods from your diet, consider transitioning your dog or cat to a new diet to be healthier together! Because our pets are natural carnivores, Healthy Spot started with raw pet foods in mind. While a kibble diet may be a good solution for some pets, a biologically appropriate raw food diet offers many more benefits.
Transitioning your pet to a frozen raw food diet can help set them on the path to their healthiest and happiest lifestyle. A complete and balanced raw diet for dogs or cats will fuel them with the protein and nutrients they need to help them thrive and keep their energy elevated for years to come! Plus, raw food serves our pets even more incredible benefits, including:
🐾 Helping to reduce the risk of serious health conditions
🐾 Supporting a more active lifestyle
🐾 Improving skin and coat health
🐾 Helping to prevent tartar buildup and more!
(Plus, it feels great knowing your pet is eating food made with ingredients that you can pronounce!)

Once you’ve decided to transition your pet to a raw food diet, it’s important to learn proper safety protocols. Our friends at Primal Pet Foods put together some easy tips to help you safely handle raw pet food at home.
-
KEEP YOUR KITCHEN CLEAN
Serve and prepare your pet’s food on clean dishware, as you would yourself. Keep food bowls and surfaces clean by washing them with hot soapy water after every meal.
-
MAKE SOME FREEZER SPACE
Frozen raw food must stay frozen until it’s ready to be served. No thawing should occur until your raw food is ready to be served. Ensure raw food is fully thawed before serving.
-
PORTION CONTROL
Make sure to follow the guidelines for how much raw food you should feed your pet, as shown on the bag. PRO-TIP: To cut down on prep time, try dividing portions into freezer-safe containers that can easily be transferred to the refrigerator to thaw before their next meal.
-
A LITTLE SNACK
Go above and beyond for your pet and treat them to raw snacks and supplements! Frozen raw bones can be a great source of protein and mental stimulation, while raw milk has excellent health benefits as it contains vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, trace elements, enzymes, protein and fatty acids that are easily absorbed by our pets.
-
CLEAN UP
Cleaning up after serving is one of the most important steps in raw feeding. Our pet’s food and water bowls can collect bacteria if not properly washed and sanitized. We highly recommend serving raw products in stainless steel bowls- other materials, such as plastic and porcelain, can trap germs over time.
-
Still have concerns about switching to a frozen raw diet? Freeze-dried raw foods serve as a convenient alternative for those who don’t have the time to commit to a frozen raw diet. We offer a wide range of freeze-dried raw foods, treats and toppers online that provide vital nutrients your pet needs to improve their immune system and help them live a healthy lifestyle. Plus, beyond being the most versatile and nutritious alternative food to feed your pet, freeze-dried foods provide more benefits, such as:
🐾 Offering the benefit of raw nutrition with less time commitment
🐾 Having a longer shelf life than frozen raw food
🐾 Being an easy-to-serve meal and as convenient as kibble
🐾 Providing complete and balanced nutrition for all life stages and more!

When transitioning your pet to a raw diet, we recommend a slow transition. It's important to start any new food you serve your pet in small increments to introduce it to them slowly. Sudden changes to diet can potentially cause digestive issues.
As you begin your pet’s raw journey, refer to Stella & Chewy’s Guide to Raw Feeding to help you portion out food during the transition process. These timelines break down a day-by-day feeding process to allow your pet’s stomach to become accustomed to the taste and texture of the new food.
We’re very excited about your dedication to your pet’s health. Your dog or cat will love their new raw food diet and you’re sure to love the benefits and improvements you’ll notice in your pet!

I love Stella and Chewys
I have used freeze dried feline natural. I do like Stella and Chewys. I’ve also tried Smallbatch. I like that Smallbatch is a California based brand and do source all their meats from local farms as well.
I love the natural mind body bowl treats!
