Once you’ve decided to transition your pet to a raw food diet, it’s important to learn proper safety protocols. Our friends at Primal Pet Foods put together some easy tips to help you safely handle raw pet food at home.

1. KEEP YOUR KITCHEN CLEAN
   
   Serve and prepare your pet’s food on clean dishware, as you would yourself. Keep food bowls and surfaces clean by washing them with hot soapy water after every meal.
   
   
2. MAKE SOME FREEZER SPACE
   Frozen raw food must stay frozen until it’s ready to be served. No thawing should occur until your raw food is ready to be served. Ensure raw food is fully thawed before serving.
   
   
3. PORTION CONTROL
   Make sure to follow the guidelines for how much raw food you should feed your pet, as shown on the bag. PRO-TIP: To cut down on prep time, try dividing portions into freezer-safe containers that can easily be transferred to the refrigerator to thaw before their next meal.
   
   
4. A LITTLE SNACK
   Go above and beyond for your pet and treat them to raw snacks and supplements!
