About High Levels of Vitamin D

Why are elevated levels of Vitamin D dangerous? Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin needed to regulate calcium and balance phosphorous in a dog's body. However, if consumed in high levels, it can lead to Vitamin D toxicity which can lead to serious health issues in dogs and can affect their kidneys, heart, gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system. Symptoms of Vitamin D toxicity include:

  • Vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Increased thirst
  • Increased urination
  • Abdominal pain
  • Excessive drooling
  • Weight loss
